An Introduction to working with wild-wood

  • The Applestore Cafe Wyresdale Park, Scorton (map)

An exciting opportunity to explore the basic skills, tools and knowledge needed to transform wildwood into wonderful eye-catching creations.

About this Event

This course is suitable for anyone interested in learning how to take a piece of wild wood found on beach, in a woodland or elsewhere, and giving it a new life. No previous experience is necessary, just a love of wood and a curious nature!

The course will cover the following:

  • where to find wildwood

  • how to assess its potential

  • initial cleaning and preparation

  • basic tool selection and safety and how to set up a basic work station

  • deciding what to make

  • shaping, finishing and presentation.

Cost includes all materials. You will have a large collection of wildwood to choose from, and we can also explore the surrounding woodland for interesting pieces, but what you actually make on the day will be down to your imagination (plus a little input form me where needed) and the time available and you may need to finish off at home. This course is more about developing skills and knowledge rather than everyone making a particular product. You are welcome to bring any wildwood you may have knocking about and we can take a look. You never know, it may hide some cool woody secrets!
