Top Things to do on a Rainy Day

Ah the Great British Weather! One thing is for certain in the UK, it’s always worth packing your wellies in the boot of the car, and as much as we may complain about the rain, we wouldn’t have the beautiful green landscape that we do without it, so there’s no shortage of places to go or things to do on a rainy day. Take a look at the list we’ve put together just for you.

  1. Top of the list has to be the Lake District. Rain or shine, it’s one of the most beautiful parts of the country and just a stone’s throw from Lancashire. Whether you’re in the mood for a walk around a Lake or a potter around Wordsworth’s Museum, there’s always something to do on a rainy day in the Lake District.

  2. Blackpool is one of the UKs top holiday destinations, but if you catch it on a rainy day don’t fret, as there are plenty of things to entertain the family on a rainy day. Start with the Sealife Centre; packed with lots to see and do right in the heart of Blackpool promenade. Later why not take a look in Madame Tussaud’s or amaze the family in Ripley’s Believe it or Not!? Finish off on the two penny slots before a hearty fish and chip supper.

  3. Old Holly Farm in Garstang is a must for kids of all ages. A working farm that boasts a whole host of animals to get up close to, it’s free entry and has an indoor play area, café and farm shop to entertain the family on a rainy day.

  4. Set in the heart of Lancashire; Lancaster Castle is packed full of history and heritage, with guided tours available daily and stories to entertain the children about witchcraft and wizardry in Lancashire. With regular events held throughout the year and a newly opened café on site from Atkinsons, you could easily get lost for hours in and around the Castle of a rainy day in Lancaster.

  5. Wyresdale Park and Café is a hidden gem in the gateway to the Forest of Bowland; nestled within acres of beautiful landscape and close to Scorton, enjoy a walk around the lake before wandering the quaint artisan shops on the estate. Be prepared to queue in the popular Applestore Café though, packed with delicious homemade treats, you won’t want to leave!

  6. Harris Museum and Art Gallery in the heart of Preston, boasts a large and beautiful collection of fine art, sculpture and objects of historic interest. With a large public lending library and reference library also available, you will be sure to get lost in the Museum during your visit. Harris hosts many events throughout the year for all the family, including children’s clubs, entertainment and even adult classes, as well as running several major exhibitions. It’s certainly well worth a visit for all the family and the perfect activity in Lancashire on a rainy day.
